Imagine That

I have a friend who is leaving this week-end for Australia.  We have mutual friends there whom we have not seen for several years.  They are Russian friends who immigrated to “the land down under” a long time ago.  For several weeks now I’ve talked with my friend about her trip.  We’ve imagined together the reunion she will have, the hugs, the laughs, the overall amazing joy that will be shared by all concerned.

I wish I could slip myself into her suitcase but I must wait my turn to go.  Until then I can only imagine what it will be like when I get there too.

There’s another trip I’m waiting to take.  My father took the trip this past year.  I sometimes try to imagine what he is doing and who he has talked to and what was it like to see the face of Jesus for the very first time.  I can only imagine what it will be like when I see His face too.

One of my favorite songs is by the group MercyMe.  Some of the lyrics are as follows:

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By Your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When Your face
Is before me

I can only imagine
I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in Your presence or to my knees will I
fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine
I can only imagine

While each of us awaits our time to take that heavenly trip, we must continue with what God has called us to do on earth.  We all have the same calling, to let the Spirit of God work Father’s will in our lives.  Then, as it says in II Corinthians 3:18, “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more.”    Imagine that.
