Blessings We Cannot See

It’s hard to like those who irritate us especially if annoyance happens over and over again. Perhaps we find it surprising to discover, that at times, we are the vexing ones getting on someone else’s nerves. I have a dear friend who once had a poster displayed in her hair salon. It read, “When I got up this morning I had one nerve left, and I’ll be doggone if you haven’t got on it.” Every one of us gets on somebody’s last nerve at some point in our lives; many points in our lives no doubt. Have you ever wondered if we irritate God?

If that thought has crossed your mind, be assured now, God’s patience is perfect. We can sadden the Holy Spirit within us when we stray from the things of God, but that’s not irritation with us, it’s disappointment because our disobedience causes us to miss the joyful blessings of God in its fulness. Our Heavenly Father is perfect in patience and love. He never tires in calling us back to Himself. He never stops sending us the help we need. We don’t always recognize His help or His blessings but they are all around us. In fact, God blesses everyone, but special blessings come to those that are His own. That’s what Jesus was saying in Matthew 5:45 when He said in regard to His Father, He gives sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. God loves to bless humanity and He especially sends protection and helps to His children. We read in Hebrews 1:14, that angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.

We have limited vision in our mortal bodies, but one day there will be a time when our resurrected bodies will see those things that take place in the heavens. Right now we believe by faith. Since God’s Word tells us that angels travel between the throne of God and earth, carrying out His commands; then by faith, we believe that God cares about us at every moment of the day. He cares when we are lovely in our behavior, and He cares when are the ones getting on everybody’s last nerve. When we stray from Him, His eyes are still watching over, whispering words of love, bidding us to return to Him and be blessed again in sweet inner peace and joy like nothing else.

There is so much that we cannot see, but there is so much we can know, by faith, because God’s Word is true in its entirety. God loves us immeasurably. He never loves us any less when we stray from Him. He always welcomes us back with joy and celebration. He blesses our obedience and prods us in loving discipline when we are disobedient. He sends angels that watch over us, at times to intercept danger. We cannot always see the blessings of God, but we can know that He never tires in watching over us with a banner of love that never fades.
