Thoughts Along Life's Journey

Have you ever thought it’s meal time, but you just weren’t hungry? Even so, you took a bite of something and ummmmm so good you had to have more? We’ve no doubt all had those moments. Sometimes we may want to eat, but we don’t like the appearance of what’s on the plate. Parents often remark to their children, “you won’t know if you like it unless you taste it.” How true. Unsightly green spinach, after tasting, may be discovered to be a favorite dish. We won’t know unless we taste. It’s the same in our spiritual world.
Psalm 34:8 tells us, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh the joys of those who take refuge in Him.”
Have you ever found yourself in some difficult situation in which you can’t decide what to do? Perhaps it is so troublesome that despondency is setting in, your can’t think clearly. Is there any way out? At such moments we may call out to Father to help us! Indeed, that is right to do, but may I encourage you, don’t merely call out, but search His Word. Psalm 119:130 & 133 tells us, “The teaching of Your Word gives light. Guide my steps by Your word.”
Sometimes, when we are so downcast, reading God’s Word can be the last thing we want to do. The enemy, Satan, will whisper lies like — you don’t have time right now, you must take other action to fix your troubles, reading won’t help, that can wait till later. Our arch enemy lies all the time. He is sickly gleeful in your suffering. I encourage you — don’t listen to him! He never has any good intention for you. Your Heavenly Father, by contrast, always has your best interests in His heart.
Are you weary of something today? Are you depressed? Are you worried? May I remind you and encourage you to, “taste and see that the Lord is good.” Open the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the words you read. Make that decision to let your steps be guided by His Word. There is no better meal to eat in times of your greatest struggle. The truth of God’s Word will give you the strength you need to carry on another day, and another, and another.
Taste and see, for then you will eat a delicious meal of truth, comfort, and hope.
